FIFA proposes yellow-card rule change to reduce World Cup suspensions
FIFA Proposes New Yellow Card Amnesty Rule
৩৬৬বেট FIFA will propose a new yellow-card rule at its council meeting on Tuesday, allowing players’ disciplinary records to be cleared twice during the expanded World Cup. The change aims to reduce the number of players suspended during crucial knockout matches in North America.
Adjustments to Existing Suspension System
Currently, players must serve a one-match ban if they receive yellow cards in two different matches. In previous tournaments, yellow cards were wiped after the quarterfinal stage to ensure no player missed the final solely due to a semifinal booking. The new proposal builds on this system with additional flexibility.
Impact of the Expanded 48-Team Tournament
With the introduction of a 48-team World Cup and an added round-of-32 knockout stage, FIFA is reviewing rules to keep more players available. The proposal includes clearing yellow cards after the group stage and again after the quarterfinals, giving players a fresh start at key points in the competition and reducing the risk of suspension in later rounds.
